EC: STF-401C series converter

Network Integration — Network Hardware: The STF-401C series is an industrial compact RS-232/422/485 serial to fiber media converter. This is a Control Engineering 2015 Engineers’ Choice honorable mention.

The STF-401C series is designed to protect connected serial equipment from surges, spikes and electrostatic discharges carried. Most industrial automation applications require serial equipment data information from distant remote areas, and due to the restriction of up to 1.2 Km in the serial data transmission within copper wiring, Antaira’s STF-401C series secures asynchronous RS-232, RS-485, or RS-422 serial data transmissions over EMI resistant fiber at speeds up to 921.6 Kbps with distance extension in 100 MBit Fiber transmission up to 2 km in multimode fiber, or 30 km in single mode models.

Antaira’s STF-401C series is built to withstand industrial networking hazards like shock, drop, vibration, electromagnetic interference (EMI) and temperature extremes. A fan-less and IP50 rated metal casing design allow this product series to provide non-stop operating under wide temperature ranges within – 40 to 70 C. The mean time between failure of this series is up to 216,388 hours. In addition, the built-in 120 ohm resistor and terminator enhances the RS-485 signal strength power consumption of 2.5 W, and the power input range can be between 9 and 48 Vdc.

With its compact size design, the STF-401C is a perfect solution for either Point-to-Point, or half duplex single ring topology Serial Fiber Daisy Chain Network applications, such as an industrial manufacturing plant in Factory Automation, remote sensing and signaling/metering in ITS (Intelligent Transportation System), and EMI resistance for IED (Intelligent Electronic Device) data transmission in Power Substation Automation.
