EC: Tracerco Personal Electronic Dosimeter
Hardware - Handheld test, measurement, calibration: The Tracerco Personal Electronic Dosimeter (PED) is the first intrinsically safe contamination and radiation monitor that records both cumulative and real time exposure to radiation. This is a Control Engineering 2014 Engineers’ Choice finalist.
Tracerco has developed a personal radiation monitor with a much more intuitive user interface. The unit is perfect for radiation specialists and those working with radiation on an irregular basis. It is safe to use in potentially explosive environments (Intrinsically Safe), robust and reliable. For non specialist users, the display system features graphical outputs and a simple diagram of a person that fills with colour depending on radiation dose received over time.
When developing this device, Tracerco gathered inputs from a broad cross-section of users of personal radiation monitoring devices. Ease of use was a highly desirable factor alongside intrinsic safety and robustness. It was noted that existing personal dosimeters were complicated to operate, difficult to read (very small screens) and users continually consulted operational manuals.
The Tracerco PED gives exceptional performance whilst being as simple to use as possible. The monitor is easy to clean and decontaminate due to its smooth clean lines. It is shock proof so can withstand being dropped and its display easily readable due to the revolutionary AMOLED screen.
The software interface, DoseVision, has been developed with input from experienced users. The result is an intuitive software interface of a standard typically seen within the consumer marketplace.
What we have achieved through good product design and thoughtful consideration of customer needs is a Personal Electronic Dosimeter with global mass market appeal.
