VLT FlexConcept drive. The VLT FlexConcept is a unified and optimized drive solution specifically engineered to satisfy the efficiency, flexibility, and reliability demands of the food and beverage and packaging industries. This is a Control Engineering 2012 Engineers’ Choice finalist. The VLT FlexConcept from Danfoss is available for centralized or decentralized application in dry, wet, or aseptic-critical areas. It can significantly lower the costs of ownership by reducing the cost associated with stocking, storing, and maintaining spare parts and by reducing the overall number of variants in the plant by up to 70%. Modern high-volume manufacturing processes demand maximum efficiency, flexibility, and reliability from their drive systems to minimize downtime and manufacturing costs.

The VLT FlexConcept utilizes a one-motor, one-enclosure size concept that limits the number of variants required. With fewer variants, the VLT FlexConcept simplifies project planning, installation, commissioning, and maintenance, particularly in conveyor applications. In short, it is an optimized solution resulting in a lower cost of ownership. The VLT FlexConcept consists of the VLT OneGearDrive, the VLT Decentral Drive FCD 302, and the VLT AutomationDrive FC 302. The OneGearDrive features a smooth, crevice-free design with no place for food contamination to hide. Additionally, each component features a durable coating that withstands even the harshest cleaning chemicals and wash-down processes. All enclosures are designed to IP66/67 and IP69K, and satisfy DIN 1672-2 hygienic design standards.

The VLT FlexConcept supports ac or PM motors for simple or dynamic applications, and can operate open- or closed-loop. The system's consistent parameter structure and operation reduces training needs and simplifies setup and operation across applications. The system provides up to 90% energy-efficient operation, reducing total cost of ownership by up to 25% when compared with conventional systems. The system architecture of the VLT FlexConcept allows users to meet the demands of system development for new applications or as the basis for a retrofit solution. This flexibility eliminates dependence on multiple suppliers while maximizing system efficiency and control flexibility.
