EC: WirelessHART Adapter

Network integration - Wireless I/O: The WirelessHART adapter from Phoenix Contact makes plant retrofit and expansion projects much simpler and faster by eliminating or supplementing 4 mA to 20 mA signal wiring. This is a Control Engineering 2012 Engineers’ Choice award winner.

November 18, 2011

The RAD-WHA-1/2NPT WirelessHART adapter from Phoenix Contact can be used to add new devices to a process without having to run signal cabling. One adapter can attach to up to four HART devices, maximizing efficiency and reducing capital equipment costs. If HART devices are not used, the adapter can also be connected to a single 4 mA to 20 mA device to send a digitized value. The adapter can be connected in series with a HART device (loop powered) or in parallel with up to four HART devices (24 Vdc powered). This makes it a perfect solution for temporary monitoring applications and installation in Zone 2 environments. When 24 V dc powered, the adapter is capable of supplying loop current to the four HART devices. The RAD-WHA-1/2NPT adapter’s unique removable antenna makes it ideal for applications where the antenna needs to be mounted remotely or a higher gain antenna can be attached for increased performance. The one-half inch NPT fitting provides a quick and flexible mounting option either to conduit or directly to a HART instrument. The RAD-WHA-1/2NPT adapter is enclosed in a rugged aluminum housing that has a hinged compartment, providing an all-in-one unit with no components to lose or break.
