WMF 2.5 Multi-Functional Terminal Block Series - The WMF 2.5 Multi-Functional terminal blocks provide fusing, feed-through/disconnect and grounding functions for the termination of signal loops in DCS marshalling applications. This is a Control Engineering 2011 Engineers' Choice (EC) nominee.The WMF 2.5 Multi-Functional terminal block series is designed for DCS marshalling applications. They offer simplified wiring, a reduction in cabinet space, and expanded wire routing and signal distribution capabilities by combining all the necessary functionality into a compact, common profile solution.    

Two WMF 2.5 terminal blocks provide fusing, feed-through/disconnect and grounding functions for termination of one signal loop. The traditional DCS marshalling method uses three terminal blocks, and requires more space due to one additional terminal. The WMF 2.5 two terminal solution requires only 10mm of per control loop compared to 18mm for the traditional method. This significant change provides a 55% reduction in rail space and 33% fewer parts.   

WMF fuse blocks also feature an innovative, double hinged fuse holder. One hinge allows for disconnection and one for fuse access. This enables quick and easy fuse replacement and avoids interference with adjacent terminals. An optional LED blown fuse indicator with a low leakage current rating (plus or minus0.5 mA) eliminates the potential for false status indication to the PLC or DCS.    

The triple row center jumpering channel makes commoning potentials simple and easy. Instead of 1-to-1 control-wiring connections when using the traditional DCS marshalling method, the WMF 2.5 terminal solution provides a pluggable feature that enables the use of a pre-wired cable harness with 5.08mm centered connectors, making a 16 point connection in one insertion. The pre-wired cables can be built in the field, or ordered from Weidmuller. They reduce overall wiring time, and virtually eliminate wiring errors. Electrically rated for 600 V/25 A/ 26-12AWG, the WMF 2.5 terminal series carries UL and CSA approvals.   

The WMF 2.5 terminal series solution provides significant advantages for DCS marshalling applications up to 87% savings in wiring time, a 55% reduction in DIN-rail space and 33% fewer blocks required. The potential total cost savings over traditional solutions can have a positive, bottom line impact.
