EC: Yokogawa CW10 Clamp-on Power Meter
Hardware – Handheld test, measurement, calibration: The Yokogawa CW10 Clamp-on Power Meter is capable of measuring up to 600 kW, 600 A, and 1,000 V, and can also measure power factor, harmonics, total harmonic distortion, frequency, and resistance in one portable test instrument. This is a Control Engineering 2012 Engineers’ Choice honorable mention.
The Yokogawa CW10 Clamp-on Power Meter combines the basic functionality of a standard clamp on tester, digital multimeter, and power monitor to initially diagnose maintenance and electrical issues before more expensive and sophisticated equipment may be required to analyze the performance of motors, generators, and other power-related equipment. The CW10 is easy to use, easy to carry, and will prove to be the primary diagnostic instrument in a technician's tool kit, according to Yokogawa.
The CW10 allows technicians and maintenance personnel to measure 600 A ac/dc, 1,000 V ac/dc, 600 kW ac/dc, power factor, total harmonic distortion, harmonics from 1st to 25th, resistance, and frequency. Other measurement and diagnostic capabilities include phase rotation, voltage detection, continuity check, diode test, inrush current, and low pass filter. The CW10 possesses a rotary switch and joystick that allows the user to easily select the preferred measurement and diagnostic function. The display is backlit when clamping and contains a 3.5-digit and bar graph display.
The CW10 meets CAT IV 600 V and CAT III 1,000 V safety standards and is CE rated. Standard accessories provided with the unit are one 9-V battery, test leads, a soft case, and an instruction manual. Alligator test leads are also available.
