You may know that the IEEE 1588 is the ''2002 Standard for a Precision Clock Synchronization Protocol for Networked Measurement and Control Systems,'' sponsored by the Technical Committee on Sensor Technology TC-9. There’s an IEEE 1588 Workshop on Sept. 24, 2003. Workshop registration deadline is Sept. 10.

You may know that the IEEE 1588 is the ''2002 Standard for a Precision Clock Synchronization Protocol for Networked Measurement and Control Systems,'' sponsored by the Technical Committee on Sensor Technology TC-9. There’s an IEEE 1588 Workshop on Sept. 24, 2003. Workshop registration deadline is Sept. 10.

''The IEEE 1588 web site, in particular the program for the workshop…gives a pretty good idea of the kinds of companies and organizations interested in (or maybe in some cases upset by) 1588 technology,'' says John Eidson, chair 1588 working group. At least four companies will discuss their implementations of the standard; several have achieved synchronization atroughly the 200-nanosecond level, says Eidson, of Agilent Technologies.
