EEMODS motor and drive conference set to make U.S. debut

The Energy Efficiency in Motor Drive Systems Conference, scheduled for Sept. 12-14, 2011, near Washington, DC, will present the latest developments on the impact of electrical motor systems on energy-efficiency and the environment.

Energy Efficiency in Motor Driven Systems (EEMODS) - a conference focusing on efficiency of motors, drives, and related systems—will be coming to the U.S. for the first time since its inception in 1995. EEMODS will be the hosted by the 1.MG Motor and Generator section of NEMA (National Electric Manufacturers Association), scheduled for the greater Washington, DC, area during Sept. 12-14, 2011. This 7th biennial event follows previoEEMODS Conferenceus successful staging of the conference in Nantes, France in 2009; Beijing, China (2007); and Heidelberg, Germany (2005), among other sites.

EEMODS’11 serves as a forum to discuss and debate the latest developments on the impact of electrical motor systems on energy and the environment. The forum also provides platform discussions on policies and programs planned and adopted by governments and their agencies. The objective is to explain commercial advances of energy-efficient motors and systems. Topics covered in past EEMODS conferences have included:

  • Energy management;
  • International harmonization of motor testing and efficiency standards; and
  • Innovative financial packages for motor systems.

Globally diverse attendee profile

“The conference has achieved a reputation for excellence and has attracted registration from six continents,” said NEMA Industry Director William Hoyt. “It also has an intellectually diverse attendance coming from industry, academia, government, research laboratories, and other public service organizations.” Countries represented at previous EEMODS conferences include Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Portugal, Sweden, Thailand, and the U.S., among others. Some 300 attendees are expected at EEMODS`11, which will be held at the Westin Alexandria, in Alexandria, VA.

Papers for presentation have been invited by the Organizing Committee on a wide range of topics. Accepted papers will be non-commercial and peer reviewed. Paolo Bertoldi, of the European Union’s European Commission on Energy Efficiency, has coordinated the call for papers with NEMA’s planning committee—which is staffed by representatives from Baldor Electric (now part of the ABB Group), Nidec Motor Corp., TECO-Westinghouse, International Copper Development Assoc., and NEMA.

The selected papers are expected to draw enthusiastic following during the conference and in published proceedings, given the wide range of topics as outlined below:
