X67 stepper motor modules are said to give machine builders a more cost-effective way to control stepper motors, providing high torque level, operation without position feedback, and ability to hold the last position when power is disconnected.

Featuring integrated motor detection, 64 microsteps (per full step), stall detection, and IP67 protection, the new modules come in two models. X67SM4320 controls up to four stepper motors with a rated voltage of 18-30 V dc at a motor current up to 1 A (1.5 A peak). X67SM2436 controls up to two stepper motors with a rated voltage of 18-48 V dc at a motor current up to 3 A (5 A peak). It also has six digital inputs that can be used as limit switches or encoder inputs. Maximum step frequency for both modules is 20 kHz.

Compact design allows mounting of X67 modules directly on a machine frame adjacent to the motor. Reported advantages include reduced space requirements, lower thermal loads in the switching cabinet, and less wiring. With an input voltage range up to 48 V, peak performance in the range of 200 W can be achieved.

Modules offer two control possibilities: using position settings from the manufacturer's Soft NC or Soft CNC. Current position values can be checked cyclically by the PLC and adjusted or corrected, as needed using the control program.

X67s can identify connected motors using their coil characteristics and generate feedback in the form of an analog value. This capability makes it possible to detect wiring errors and inadvertent use of incorrect motor types. A stall detection mechanism is integrated to analyze the motor load.
