San Francisco, CA —Billed as electronicaUSA with the Embedded Systems Conference ‘ (ESC) runs March 29 to April 1, 2004, at the Moscone Convention Center. The event expects to host 14,000-15,000 attendees, including system design engineers, architects, technical managers, embedded software developers, and executives.

Attendees will have the opportunity to choose from more than 300 tutorials, workshops, and technical sessions. Some 400 exhibitors will await visitors on the show floor with 18,000 m

‘At this event, technology leaders will shape the direction of the industry, and decision-makers will look for solutions, gather and exchange ideas, identify new opportunities, and get business done,’ state the event’s organizers, CMP Media LLC, Munich International Trade Fairs, and Munich Trade Fairs North America.

The expanded format of electronicaUSA/ESC is an expansion of last year’s ESC, and will include four separate technical conferences:

Embedded Systems Conference focuses on those developing embedded and real-time systems for market sectors ranging from communications and industrial to aerospace, automotive, medical, and computer peripherals.

Power Electronics Conference covers issues related to the latest power system solutions, such as intermediate bus voltage (IBV) power architecture, smart synchronous rectification, and technologies for bus converters.

Communications Design Conference (CDC) and Emerging Technologies Forum (held on the exhibit floor) round out the conference program.

Keynote presentations also are noteworthy. Dr. Robert D. Ballard, of deep-sea exploration fame, will deliver the event-opening keynote, ‘Living the Dream: Lessons Learned on the Ocean Floor,’ at 10-11 a.m. on March 30. This glimpse into the future of undersea exploration includes his findings for the emerging science of deep-water archaeology.

Alexander Lidow, International Rectifier’s CEO, will present the Power Electronics keynote, ‘Systems Approach to Solving Challenges in Power Management: From AC Mains to Points of Load,’ at 3:45-5:15 p.m. on March 30. This keynote will address specific needs of low-voltage, high-current dc/dc systems, including a new control method for power-factor correction to simplify designs and shorten design cycles.

Jerry Fiddler, founder and board member of Wind River Systems, will give the ESC keynote, ‘Envisioning the Connected World,’ at 10-11 a.m. on March 31. It will offer a view of an ‘always-on’ future, and how that ‘connected world’ will evolve through convergence of multiple technologies, resulting in one giant, interoperable system.

Robert Lucky, independent consultant and former corporate VP for Telcordia Technologies, will deliver the CDC keynote, ‘The World of Telecom–Today’s Chaos, Tomorrow’s Promise,’ at 11 a.m.-12 noon on March 31. It will describe telecom’s future, where communications are unlimited, untethered and almost free, and where processing and storage are boundless.
