Elma introduces VXI enclosure

Elma Electronic Inc . recently released a commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) VXI enclosure for instrumentation systems. The company says its enclosure is ideal for airborne, shipboard or mobile, on-ground applications, where VXI is used for instrumentation. Elma manufactures electronic packaging products.

Elma reports that its 5U VXI 12R2 chassis allows six cards in the size "C," 6U x 340 mm, format to be loaded, while up to 13 slots are optional in a larger chassis. The enclosure's horizontal-loading orientation also saves rack space. Elma adds that its modular design concept allows units to be quickly, easily, and cost-effectively developed in other heights and orientations.

As with all of its COTS enclosures, Elma adds that its rugged VXI units are designed to withstand harsh military environments, and use honeycomb filters, braided gasketing, and metal-impregnated sheets to seal off all external seams. Rope-coil isolators, air springs, and elastomeric isolators are available for shock- and/or vibration-prone applications. For example, the 12R2 chassis can withstand up to 25 Gs of force.

Other features of the VXI 12R2 line include a large patch panel for I/O points located on the rear of the chassis; two handles per side for easy lifting; and power supplies for up to 750-1,000 W. Standard power supply voltages are
