Munich, Germany; San Francisco, CA —Jointly announced by Munich International Trade Fairs and CMP Media LLC on July 26, 2004, electronicaUSA will be discontinued. The reason offered for the decision was that the show ''had mixed success,'' based on its debut presentation in spring 2004, in San Francisco, under the name of ''electronicaUSA with the Embedded Systems Conference.'' The combined show had the goal to provide a comprehensive industry event, covering the whole spectrum of electronics technologies. Run-up to the show plus initial assessments and statistics indicated a positive beginning for the event.

''While there was strong interest from semiconductor, sensors, and power vendors,'' said the show organizers, ''other sectors such as interconnect, passive, and electromechanical did not meet expectations.'' Munich International Trade Fairs will focus its international activities on emerging markets, particularly in the Asian region.

As for CMP Media, it will continue to produce the well-established Embedded Systems Conference (ESC). As in previous years, an exhibition of embedded hardware and software will complement ESC’s numerous technical sessions on wide-ranging topics of interest to the embedded systems community.

The 17th annual ESC is scheduled to run March 6-10, 2005, at San Francisco’s Moscone Center. Click here for information about ESC 2005 .
