Emerson introduces new software platform for its flow computer family

has unveiled a new scalable technology platform with the introduction of its FloBoss 107 flow manager, the newest addition to its family of natural gas and liquid flow computers.

The FloBoss 107 adds dynamic configuration software and an LCD touchpad to simplify operation. The new technology platform will serve as the basis for future product introductions and provide an upgrade to current FloBoss legacy products, Emerson says.

This new platform uses modular, expandable architecture that consists of plug-in modules for the CPU, I/O, and communications. Modules plug into a four-slot base chassis. When additional capacity is needed, an expansion rack provides four additional slots for communication or I/O modules.

Emerson says the unique feature of the FloBoss 107 is its software configurable I/O modules that reduce the number of dedicated I/O modules required for an installation. This makes it easier to adapt I/O connections to the application and reduces the number of spare modules that must be inventoried. The CPU module is available with or without a configurable I/O board, which makes it economical for low point-count applications.

The new model incorporates an LCD touchpad and dynamic interface. The touchpad lets users perform many functions previously requiring a separate operator interface, such as a laptop. It offers a set of tools for security access levels, configuration, operation, and device-guided diagnostics, as well as real time and historical data trending features. The touchpad is transreflective for visibility in bright sunlight and is backlit for night viewing.

The product includes Roclink 800 configuration software. A dynamic software interface is a new way of graphically configuring the unit and offers enhanced diagnosis of integrity and alarm conditions. Dynamic interface graphically identifies the module type installed in each slot. As modules are added or changed, it updates the graphical display and provides the appropriate configuration information for each module. Dynamic interface also identifies integrity problems with a module or the alarm status of a point.

The FloBoss 107 supports IEC 61131-3 compliant programming. The five languages supported are sequential function chart, function block diagram, ladder diagram, structured text, and instruction list. The FloBoss 107 also retains all the features of the current FloBoss models. These include highly-accurate measurement calculations, extensive data archival capabilities, broad communications support, low power consumption, PID loop control, logic/sequencing control, and environmental ruggedness.
