Encoders: Linear encoders provide robust output signals

Heidenhain continued support for conversion of linear encoders for machine tool applications from 11 pp interface to the more robust 1 V pp interface, and established a common platform for the company’s linear encoders, by introducing the new state-of-the-art LS 688C linear encoder. Units are available in common measuring lengths between 170 and 3,040 mm. The company says the scanning carriage rides on ball bearings, providing strong rigidity in the measuring direction, and backlash and mounting tolerances useful for manually operated machine tools and digital readout (DRO) applications. The encoders are available with distance-coded reference marks and cable assemblies compatible with LS 388C scale series. These new scales are plug–and-play compatible with the ND 780 and PT880 digital readout systems.
