Elmo Search 2005 software aims to meet the needs of CAD managers, R&D managers, IT managers, and end-users by enabling searching within AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, Microsoft Word and Excel, PDF files, e-mails, and other document types.

It reportedly delivers highly accurate searches in a fraction of the time required by other technical-document management solutions. It allows creation of separate groups of documents, each targeted at specific interest groups in the enterprise, while complying with file security permissions. It also monitors document changes, automatically indexing new and updated documents on-the-fly within seconds. Users may customize the result page’s appearance by using the Preferences link above the search box. Items such as the fields, the number of results displayed, and the interface language, among others, can be customized.

A permanent, 5,000-document license is downloadable free from the company Web site. The free license can be upgraded to accommodate larger numbers of documents, at a cost that can be as low as 5 cents per document.
