Octagon Systems Corp . recently announced its latest single-board computer (SBC)—XE-700—in the new, international standard EPIC format. The SBC incorporates STPC Atlas, 32-bit 5×86-class CPU, is bootable from CompactFlash, and can operate a reduced clock for lower power operation. XE-700 has 64 MB of DRAM and supports up to 8 MB of CompactFlash. Like other Octagon products, the new SBC is designed to operate in extreme environments where reliability is a major concern. Targeted applications are transportation, security, military, communications, SCADA systems, and other harsh environments.

XE-700 is rated to withstand 40 g shock and 5 g vibration, and operates in the -40 to 85° C temperature range. Features include two USB ports; four RS-232/422/485 serial ports; 24 lines of bit-programmable, digital I/O points with 16 mA sink/source capability; 10/100 Base-T Ethernet; CRT and TFT video controller; and PC/104 expansion.

For “instant on” operation of the embedded PC, companion XE-700 OS Embedder kits are available for Linux 2.6, QNX, and DOS. Single-piece pricing of XE-700 board is $495, with volume discounts available and delivery from stock.
