San Jose, Calif. Embedded Ethernet and enhanced messaging tools led announcements at the Embedded Systems Conference on Sept. 28-30. Wind River Systems (Alameda, Calif.) exhibited a real-time, embedded version of DCOM called VxDCOM that allows embedded devices to connect with PC-based applications. Lynx Real-Time Systems(San Jose, Calif.) introduced a messaging extension to LynxOS based on I2O (intelligent I/O) protocol, allowing software applications and split device drivers to communicate. PC-in-the-Loop from The Math Works (Natick, Mass.) enables control and DSP engineers to perform rapid prototyping and system-level testing of embedded systems. Linux, the Unix-like open source operating system, was present in the form of Ziatech’s (San Luis Obispo, Calif.) multiprocessing CompactPCI platform. Motorola Computer Group (Tempe, Ariz.) exhibited a Linux-based embedded platform.
