Exclusive: Solid-state relay saves 35% cabinet space

Buffalo Grove, IL—Carlo Gavazzi has just released its RX Series ThyRex for solid-state switching of ac loads up to 32 A at voltages up to 480 V ac, when controlled by 4-32 V dc or 24-275 V ac. Buffalo Grove, IL— Carlo Gavazzi has just released its RX Series ThyRex for solid-state switching of ac loads up to 32 A at voltages up to 480 V ac, when controlled by 4-32 V dc or 24-275 V ac. ThyRex is a compact solid-state relay (SSR) that reportedly enables space savings up to 35% in the control cabinet.
ThyRex’s dimensions are 76 mm high x 22.5 mm wide x 43 mm deep. These SSR devices are reportedly the first with a base module that lets users select different cable securing methods, such as screw terminals, spring terminals, or Fast-Ons. Carlo Gavazzi says this makes ThyRex a unique solution for all panel builders seeking to facilitate and speed up installation time.
In addition, ThyRex gives equipment designers an easy substitution for existing relays because its mounting dimensions fit industry standards. The relay’s thyristor-based power section is soldered using vacuum bonding technology for added durability, and is externally protected by an aluminum plate for increased mechanical strength in the field. The fully plug-in system allows users to pre-wire the cable harness outside the electrical panel.

ThyRex’s basic plug-in system on the power side is with standard 6.3-mm male Fast-On spades. If a screw terminal is preferred, a screw-type plug that slides onto the Fast-On can be used for power and load connections. If a spring terminal is preferred, a spring-type plug that fits the Fast-On can be used for power and load connections. Spring-type plug allows connection of two cables on each side, which means that looping from one relay to another is possible. Both screw- and spring-type plugs are original Carlo Gavazzi designs. On the control connection, it’s also possible to choose between screw and spring plugs. Control plugs are typically considered the industry standard.

This fully plug-in system makes ThyRex user friendly to equipment end-users. If an equipment overload or overheating occurs, requiring field maintenance,
