Exhibitions, seminars, education

Several significant motors, drives, and motion control events are rapidly approaching.

Two significant motors, drives, and motion control events are rapidly approaching:

  • SPS/IPC/Drives 2003 , the major European electronic automation exhibition and conference, will be held in Nuremberg, Germany, during Nov. 25-27, 2003.

  • “New Technologies for the Motors & Drives Industry” is the theme of SMMA ’s (The Motor & Motion Association) 2003 Fall Technical Conference in Nashville, TN, which will run during Nov. 5-7, 2003.

Two other events of possible interest:

European electronic automation show bucks downtrend

SPS/IPC/Drives 2003, the European electronic automation exhibition and conference to be held in Nuremberg, Germany (Nov. 25-27, 2003), continues to grow. Exhibit sectors cover controls (PLCs, industrial PCs), electric drives, fieldbus technology, networks and industrial communication, visualization, software, image processing, intelligent sensors, and safety technology.

For the first time, booked exhibition space has exceeded 50,000 sq. meters (538,000 sq. ft) spread over six exhibition halls. Some 880 exhibitors (790 in 2002) are signed on for the show that last year drew nearly 23,000 visitors.

''Linux in Automation'' will be among several special technical presentations at the show. The conference portion of the event consists of lectures, tutorials, and special presentations (mostly in German) on a wide cross-section of topics. Last year the conference consisted of more than 116 sessions.

SMMA 2003 Fall Technical Conference around the corner

The Motor & Motion Association’s (SMMA, South Dartmouth, MA) Fall Technical Conference—built around the theme ofational Standards, Motor Manufacturing, and New Technologies.

''Basics of Brushless DC Motors,'' an SMMA Motor & Motion College course, will be presented on Nov. 5. The full-day course covers common types of brushless dc motors, their basic operation, materials used to build the motors, and how to predict their performance.
