The Fieldbus Foundation has finalized agreements with Fisher-Rosemount and Honeywell regarding underlying technologies essential to implementing the FOUNDATION fieldbus specifications.
The agreements involve three “Control in the Field” patents and a patent relating to Distributed Function Blocks held by Fisher-Rosemount, and two download patents relating to programming field devices held by Honeywell.
“The right to use these technologies has never been in doubt,” said Richard J. Timoney, Fieldbus Foundation president, “and the commitment to make them available to the industry has been in place for some time. The companies involved in these agreements had a number of options regarding mechanisms they could use to grant the necessary rights to Fieldbus Foundation.”
