Free software helps with functional specifications

Various software tools can help develop functional specifications that can increase probability of success in automation and control implementations. ControlDraw Ltd. now offers a free version of its software, offering basic functions for specification and design of S88 models, useful beyond batch applications for process automation.

Free version of ControlDraw3 reportedly includes ability to:

  • Draw process flow diagrams with state matrices for unit and equipment modules, with animation;

  • Draw logic diagrams and then run them, watching the logic signals flow through the diagram.

  • Draw control loop function block diagrams (SAMA loops) and run them, simulating processes and their PID control loops;

  • Draw and simulate Grafcet/SFC charts, state transition diagrams more;

  • Build small hierarchical S88-oriented models;

  • Build state matrices that define the possible states of a collection of objects in one matrix.
