American Superconductor and GE Industrial Systems, a division of General Electric Co., recently allied to provide American Superconductor’s Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage (SMES) systems to utility and industrial customers. The SMES device is applied to improve customers’ electrical power performance during system disturbances and high-load conditions. The agreement allows GE to exclusively offer American Superconductor’s Distributed-SMES (D-SMES) product line to U.S. utilities. GE can also sell American Superconductor’s industrial Power Quality-SMES (PQ-SMES) systems to certain GE global industrial accounts.
