GSE undertakes multiple simulator, upgrade projects

Columbia, MD—GSE Systems Inc. announced Jan. 6 that it recently secured several simulator and simulator upgrade projects in the U.S. and Ukraine.

Columbia, MD— GSE Systems Inc. for the Emergency Control Room at the Ukraine-based Rivne Unit 2 plant and provide spare parts. Also, GSE has received and begun work on its $9-million Zaporozhzhye Unit 3 simulator project.

Back in the U.S., GSE recently received contracts to upgrade two nuclear power plant simulators. At the Farley Nuclear Station, operated by Southern Nuclear, the plant simulator will be upgraded with a new computer complex running under GSE's OpenSim environment. In addition, GSE is providing advanced thermal hydraulic and neutronic models, and developing a classroom simulator by using GSE's XtremeView graphics tool to develop a complete set of control room soft panels.

Likewise, the Kewaunee nuclear plant simulator will also be upgraded to the latest version of OpenSim, and receive upgrades to various plant system models. The Kewaunee simulator will also be covered under GSE's Annual Simulator Maintenance Program. These projects are valued at more than $1 million.

'We're pleased with the government's decision to move forward with the Zaporozhzhye simulator. By continuing the critical elements of the international nuclear safety program, the U.S Department of Energy is helping ensure the safety of people that live near nuclear plants worldwide,' says Jerry Jen, GSE's president and coo. 'Our RNI Division continues to have success in upgrading domestic nuclear power plants. These awards reflect continued customer support of our technology. We previously announced the impact these delayed projects had on our earnings for the second half of 2002. These projects will help our Power Simulation business enter 2003 with a healthy backlog.'
