Guide Offers Pump Design Tips

To assist in the design and specification of energy-efficient pump systems, the Hydraulic Institute (HI), Parsippany, N.J., and Europump, a European pump manufacturing association, have joined forces to create a 200-page reference guide, Pump Life Cycle Costs: A Guide to LCC Analysis for Pumping Systems.

To assist in the design and specification of energy-efficient pump systems, the Hydraulic Institute (HI), Parsippany, N.J., and Europump, a European pump manufacturing association, have joined forces to create a 200-page reference guide, Pump Life Cycle Costs: A Guide to LCC Analysis for Pumping Systems .

"With nearly 20 percent of the world's electrical energy consumption accounted for by pumping systems, and with pump usage in individual plant installations accounting for as much as 25 to 50 percent of the total energy consumption, we recognized a real need for optimizing pumping-systems design and life-cycle cost savings guidelines," says HI's Executive Director Robert Asdal.

The guide gives a description of essential pumping-system components and step-by-step instruction for the specification, design and operation of pumping systems to achieve minimum life-cycle cost. The manual also contains a model for estimating total costs, including procurement, operation, maintenance and disposal of plant and associated equipment.
