HP plant puts in RFID-based inventory tracking

Hewlett-Packard (HP) OATSystems ' new Asset Tracking System for enhanced visibility into inventory. Reading Gen 2 passive tags affixed to printer assemblies, the system cut safety stock 17 percent.
“The system tracks tags on the printer as they start through assembly and can track actual delivery to the distribution centers,” says Paul Cataldo, HP VP of marketing.
Test results in manufacturing can be written to the tag and logged in the system. The system also can be used for reverse logistics when printers are returned for service, speeding efficient resolution and reshipment to the customer.
