Chicago, Ill. -New Iconics (Foxborough, Mass.) software switches languages, offers multi-media alarming, brings interactive human-machine interface (HMI) to wireless phones, and puts a web server HMI into Microsoft Windows CE and Embedded NT operating systems. These were among announcements March 6, at National Manufacturing Week here.

Version 6.1 of Genesis32 includes ‘significant new features for international customers and those on the move,’ says Chris Volpe, Iconics vp of sales. He uses the release theme of ‘Globalize and Mobilize’ for the what the company calls ‘the industry’s only suite of fully integrated OPC-based components and products.’

Prominent new features include language switching in the Unicode version for multi-lingual flexibility in graphical displays, text fields, alarm text within alarm viewers, and trend viewer pen descriptions and values. Beyond translation, switching allows set-up in multiple languages, allowing global OEMs to build multilingual machines that the user can then set to the desired language(s) by location or by operator, for Afrikaans, Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish.

GenBroker enables Genesis32 components to ‘talk’ across the Internet, an intranet, or through firewalls by translating OPC calls into TCP/IP communications. Security enhancements help compliance with U.S. FDA 21 CFR Part 11 for reporting and record keeping.

A plug-in module, AlarmWorX32, allows multimedia alarming via two-way pagers, fax, e-mail, pop-up windows, marquee messages on remote PCs, mobile phones, local audio, and other devices.

TrendWorX32 real-time historian module optimizes real-time data logging to Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, and MSDE; operator comments may be posted to the database; information may be published on, reported to web servers.

WebHMI software now delivers full bi-directional content over the Internet, with full animation of graphics, trends, and alarms. It’s a web server HMI application for Microsoft Windows CE and Embedded NT operating systems, displaying information without installing ‘thin-or-fat client software.’

MobileHMI Wireless Mobile WAP Telephony Software, using Wireless Application Protocol and OPC, provides real-time manufacturing data, via any mobile phone. With appropriate security clearance, setpoint adjustments may be made remotely.
