  • To complement its motion control portfolio, Agilent Technologies Inc. (Palo Alto, CA) has acquired exclusive rights to absolute encoder technology from Optolab Microsystems AG (Erfurt, Germany), a supplier of optoelectronic solutions. While its motion control products already include absolute encoders, Agilent plans to introduce new encoders later this year, based on Optolab's technology for use in industrial automation applications.

  • GE Fanuc Automation North America Inc. (Charlottesville, VA) acquired Ramix Inc. (Ventura, CA), a supplier of embedded computing connectivity, storage, and memory solutions for defense, aerospace, telecommunications, medical equipment, and other industries, to increase its capabilities with new products and grow its $9-billion industry segment. GE Fanuc will combine Ramix's product lines with its present offerings to create an embedded systems group to be headquartered in Huntsville, AL.

  • Yamanouchi Ireland Co., Ltd. (Dublin, Ireland), a subsidiary of Japan's Yamanouchi Pharmaceuticals, will use ABB's IndustrialIT technology to upgrade its Dublin-based production facility.

  • To help users implement its Snap Ultimate I/O remote monitoring, control, and data acquisition system at their own pace, Opto 22 (Temecula, CA) has developed and released its Snap Ultimate I/O Learning Center. This package includes a complete, fully functional set of Opto 22 hardware and software, which provides all the tools needed to learn and train with Snap Ultimate I/O.
