A variety of products, each with features designed to improve the human-machine interface display, made their way to market this month. See and read about them in the summaries that follow and obtain additional information about the devices from the manufacturers’ Web sites.
Global Display Solutions ’ new piezo inverter for multi-lamp backlight systems features balanced output that claims to be the "first of its kind." According to the manufacturer, the device features improved reliability, safety, and EMI performance compared with existing wire-wound component systems. With the use of a piezo inverter, each lamp in multiple lamp systems operates independently, enabling continued operation of the display in the event of a single or multiple lamp failure.

Industrial rack-mounted console drawer from Acme Portable Machines Inc., has a 17-in. flat-panel TFT screen.

Balanced output configuration makes dimming ratios of more than 500:1 easily achievable. The device also offers 12-24 V dc; control circuitry and low voltage power supply that can be remotely mounted for better thermal management of the display; and optical feedback that provides uniform lamp output and that can compensate for brightness variations caused by temperature changes in the display.

Industrial rack-mounted console drawer from Acme Portable Machines Inc. , features a fold-down 17-in. flat-panel display, keyboard, and mouse pad. Screen easily folds down and slides into a 1U (1.75 in.) high slot for space saving monitoring of up to 16 devices simultaneously. Model SMK-590R can monitor up to 64 devices by daisy-chaining three more KVM (keyboard/video/mouse) switches. The 1,280 x 1,024 pixel monitor is a flat-panel TFT screen with anti-glare tempered glass for added protection to the LCD screen.

FPM-3170 17-in. color SXGA TFT LCD flat-panel monitor from Advantech Corp. is designed for industrial applications.

FPM-3170 17-in. color SXGA TFT LCD flat panel monitor from Advantech Corp . is designed for industrial applications. Device supports resolutions up to 1,280 x 1,024 pixels, and panel, wall, rack-mount, or VESA arm mounting; multi-scan function supports SXGA, XGA, VGA, and VGA-text mode settings.
Monitor is available in touchscreen and non-touchscreen models. Ample display area presents sharp images for HMI applications. An on-screen display function lets users easily adjust images on screen. Chassis are stainless steel; front panel is made of aluminum. Protected against dust and low-pressure water jets (NEMA 4/IP65-rated), the monitor is suitable for harsh environments.
