Contemporary Controls has created a five-day, e-mailed tutorial, ''Five Days to Industrial Ethernet,'' that covers essential aspects of Ethernet planning and installation. For users considering putting Ethernet in their applications, there are some very important things to consider before getting started, including:

  • Criteria for selecting cables, hubs, switches and network cards;

  • Important facts about system layout;

  • Questions users should ask vendors about application layer;

  • Protocols; and

  • Security issues and best practices for maintaining a healthy system long term.

To make project planning easy and simple, the tutorial covers all of these topics in a series of five short e-mail messages.
