In the wake of panel discussions on Ethernet security at this year’s Hannover Fair, Control Engineering has followed up with a variety of industry experts to determine the biggest Ethernet security issues facing users, and discuss what manufacturers should be doing internally—and in conjunction with service and product providers—to mitigate the risk.

Specific issues addressed in the podcast include:

  • Preventative steps that can be taken to secure plant Ethernet networks, such as tiered access and range checking;

  • Network recovery following security breaches;

  • Layered network approach to establish “trusted” zones; and

  • The impact of ISA Security Compliance Institute.

Hannover fair panel commentary included in the podcast features Viktor Schiffer of Rockwell Automation and Sundar Balu of Molex. Follow-up interviews were conducted with Lee House of GarrettCom, Karsten Schneider of the Profi Interface Center, and Ed Nabrotzky of Molex.
