By Control Engineering Staff November 22, 2007

Emerson Process Management has been named main instrumentation provider for the largest integrated refinery and petrochemical project in China’s history: the Dushanzi Petrochemical Corp. oil refining and ethylene project in Dushanzi City, Xinjiang. The $4 billion project boasts truly colossal proportions.

The Dushanzi project includes 20 refining and 12 petrochemical process units. The refinery will produce 10 million tons of oil per year, or 200,000 barrels per day. The petrochemical units will produce 1.2 million tons of ethylene annually. Crude oil feedstock will be fed to the facility via the Kazakhstan-China pipeline. Dushanzi Petrochemical, is a wholly owned subsidiary of PetroChina Co. Ltd.

Emerson will supply more than 25,000 Rosemount instruments, about 2,500 Fieldvue DVC6000 HART smart positioners, 2000 Fisher control valves, and more than 400 Micro Motion Coriolis flowmeters. The project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2008.

“Emerson provides the multiple benefits of proven quality instrumentation products, reliable engineering consultation, superior service, extensive experience in the petrochemical industry, and a proven track record in China,” says Liu Jufa, vice president, Dushanzi Petrochemcials.

“We are honored to be chosen as the main instrumentation supplier to China’s largest integrated refinery and petrochemical project,” says Mike Train, president of Emerson Process Management Asia-Pacific. “We look forward to working with Dushanzi to help them achieve the operating goals of this enormous integrated facility.”
