Here are some details—including links to additional information—on an assortment of recently introduced instrumentation-related products and services that should be of interest. Included are a calibration scheduling service, a non-contact flow sensor, a new generation of capacitive sensors, an upcoming conference, and a revised and expanded measurement and control handbook.

Instrumentation calibration scheduling is made simpler by a new service offered by The Dickson Co . The Calibration Club lets participants register their instruments for free and receive free email reminders every time an instrument or asset is due for calibra-tion. Any product may be registered; all information is displayed in an easy-to-read table and can be quickly exported to Excel. Your data are password protected to ensure integrity. Flow Detect 1000 is a new non-contact flow sensor from BinMaster capable of providing a signal indicating the flow/no-flow condition of solids or powders in pipelines, air-slides, chutes, bucket elevators, transfer points, and conveyor belts. It uses microwave Doppler technology to yield highly sensitive motion detection. Technology is virtually unaffected by noise, light, pressure, heat, humidity, or dust.

A 3rd generation of Tripleshield capacitive sensors has been released by Carlo Gavazzi . New features include a single push-button "Teach Mode" that lets the user program the sensing range and output, eliminating the need for a potentiometer.

Sensors also have a remote-teach wire so that they can be programmed remotely. Sensing range has increased to 12 mm for the M18 and 30 mm for the M30 style. Product is especially suited for applications such as grain and plastic pellet level detection, liquid level detection, and detection of nearly any kind of material.

The Instrumentation, Systems, and Automation Society (ISA) is accepting speaking proposals for its ISA Expo 2004. The Expo is scheduled for October 5-7 in Houston; the deadline for submitting abstracts is February 13. Abstracts are being accepted for both the Expo’s Technical Applications and Emerging Technologies conferences. Subject of interest includes the design, development, production and application of devices and systems that sense, measure, and control industrial processes and manufacturing operations. The Condensed Handbook of Measurement and Control, 2nd Ed., by N.E. Battikha, is newly updated to provide quick access to ISA symbology and conversion guidelines. New sections cover analyzers, programmable electronic systems and trip systems, control centers, enclosures, and engineering documentation. Non-ISA-member price is $66.
