Instrumentation: LXI Consortium releases Revision 1.3

LXI Consortium releases Revision 1.3 of the LXI Standard and announces results of the Munich PlugFest. The Consortium approves 10 new instruments, bringing total to more than 640.

Niwot, CO — The LXI Consortium (LAN eXtensions for Instrumentation) approved and released Revision 1.3 of the LXI Standard , which allows a manufacturer of Class C compliant instruments to customize their offerings by adding selected features from Class B or Class A categories. Users benefit from an expanding selection of products with advanced features without having to pay for features they don't need.
The LXI Standard defines three classes of instruments with various degrees of functionality. LXI Class C provides the key features of an LXI-compliant instrument, which cover LAN- and web-server functionality. Class B and Class A provide progressively expanded functionality, most specifically for timing and triggering.
The Class B and Class A features that can now be included in Class C devices include:
• Trigger Bus,
• Event Messaging,
• IEEE 1588 Synchronization,
• Time Stamped Data, and
• Event Logs.
In addition, the following instruments from LeCroy, Thurlby Thandar Instruments and Rohde & Schwarz were tested and certified as LXI compliant.

Instruments newly certified to LXI standard

Introduced in 2005, the LXI Standard has been adopted by more than 50 companies in the test and measurement industry. The organization says LXI is making it easier for test system designers and integrators to create faster, more efficient systems. To date, more than 640 products have been certified as being compliant with the LXI Standard, and annual sales of LXI-equipped test and measurement equipment now exceed $200 million (US).
