In an integrated motion control demonstration at 2015 Pack Expo International in Las Vegas, on Sept. 29, 2015, Hans Rodgers, district sales manager, SEW-Eurodrive, shows integrated motion control in this video, about 2 minutes and 45 seconds. First, reviewing the prior year’s demonstration, Rodgers shows how integrated motors and drives (Movigear) can move wine bottles on a conveyor using about half the energy as a traditional motor and drives. In the next demonstration, a contactless energy transfer system (Movitrans), embedded in the floor provides inductive power to an automated guided vehicle (AGV) that has onboard SEW-Eurodrive controller and motors for moving the AGV and to control the motion of the conveyor on top. Radiofrequency identification (RFID) tags in the floor guide the vehicle. An integrated software package (MoviTools MotionStudio) is free to users and vendors for programming. The systems connect easily when other fieldbus communications or controllers are used in adjacent applications, Rodgers suggested.
