Everett, Wash. – Intermec Technologies Corp. has expanded its line of linear imagers with the Sabre 1400, industrial-duty linear imager for applications in warehouse, distribution center, and manufacturing facilities. It has a scanning range of up to 19 inches on damaged or poorly printed bar codes and ergonomic design.

‘The Sabre 1400 can sustain 26 six-foot drops to concrete without failing’ said Steven McDonald, Intermec product manager. ‘It has superior bar code reading capability in a variety of lighting conditions, ranging from total darkness to direct sunlight. Combine that with SAE Class Three off-road vibration specs and an IP54-rated case, and it can survive virtually any harsh, industrial environment.’

The low-cost solid-state scan engine used in the 1400 has a depth of field of up to 19 inches, a range that is said to satisfy the requirements of about 80% of the typical applications for bar code scanning.

The custom ASIC chip for scan provides 270 scans per second (vs. 40 for lasers). Linear imagers are solid state with no moving parts providing greater reliability than lasers.

The Sabre 1400 uses Intermec’s EasySet configuration software for product configuration. Features can be added by simply scanning a barcode that configures the linear imager. The product is covered by a five-year warranty.
