Intrinsically-safe keyboards receive Factory Mutual approval

iKey's wireless intrinsically-safe keyboards have received Factory Mutual approval for models BT-87-TP-IS and DW-5K-IS.


iKey BT-87-TP-IS. Courtesy: iKey Inc.iKey LTD manufactures wireless intrinsically-safe (IS) keyboards, which have recently received Factory Mutual approval for models BT-87-TP-IS and DW-5K-IS in the uses of Class I, II, and III, Division 1, Groups C, D, E, F and G locations.

The intrinsically safe, wireless products are said to completely eliminate the cable, the bulkhead connectors, and the barriers that are normally required for IS keyboard products, while maintaining the characteristics necessary for intrinsic safety. iKey’s wireless IS keyboards are just as safe as wired IS products but cost 35 percent less because they do not require barriers, according to Dave Huddleston, operations manager at iKey.

The DW-5K-IS requires three AA batteries and a USB dongle isolated from the hazardous location to operate. The DW-5K-IS features an integrated HulaPoint II pointing device and measures 14.97 in x 6.61 in x 1.91 in.

iKey DW-5K-IS. Courtesy: iKey Inc.The BT-87-TP-IS is a Bluetooth-compatible, submersible keyboard that does not require a USB dongle if the host computer is also Bluetooth-compatible. It needs two AA batteries for power. The BT-87-TP-IS features an integrated touchpad and measures 12.01 in x 7.75 in x 2.03 in.

Both of iKey’s wireless IS keyboards have a 30-ft RF range and are built with a sealed, industrial silicone rubber keypad and a rugged ABS polycarbonate case. Each of the keyboards meets NEMA 4X specifications, with the ability to withstand dirty, wet and corrosive environments.
