I/O modules should provide greater density, be easy to wire and configure and deliver high reliability, explains Tom Edwards, senior technical advisor, Opto 22.

Edward says that those buying and specifying I/O modules should consider these topics carefully:

- Density : Ideally customers are looking for greater density to aid them in reducing the required panel space, as well as the per I/O point cost of their industrial automation and control applications.

- Ease of wiring : Wiring, installing, and assembling I/O systems is often expensive and time-consuming. Installers must be careful to avoid mixing terminations, particularly in cases where several hundred devices terminate in a single cabinet. Customers are grateful for any solution that helps them address these issues and reduce the time, expense, and complexity associated with wiring their I/O modules to field instrumentation and devices. Such a solution would include Opto 22's Snap TEX cables, six foot long, jacketed, pre-wired cables that provide neat, bundled connections from modules to field devices, terminal strips, and breakout boards.
