Moxa introduced a new series of industrial-grade, x86-based computers with multiple connection options for embedded applications. The company says that the series includes four models — the V462, V464, V466, and V468. The V460 series of computers, which are based on the AMD x86 processor and feature 4 serial ports, dual or quad LAN ports, 4 USB 2.0 hosts, and CompactFlash and PCMCIA sockets, are suitable for use with many industrial automation applications. In addition, a VGA interface is included, which the company says makes them particularly well-suited for SCADA and factory automation applications.
The 4 serial ports on the V460 series computers, the company says, can be used to connect a wide range of serial devices, and the dual/quad 10/100 Mbps Ethernet ports offer a reliable solution for network redundancy, promising continuous operation for data communication and management. In addition, the CompactFlash, PCMCIA, and USB sockets provide the V460 computers with the reliability needed for industrial applications that require data buffering and storage expansion.
According to the company, the V460 series computers come with the Microsoft Windows Embedded CE 6.0 operating system pre-installed. Microsoft WinCE 6.0 provides programmers with a friendly environment for developing sophisticated, bug-free application software at a lower cost. In addition, the wide temperature model of the V462 works from -40 to 75 °C for harsh environments. For special system requirements, the company suggests using the V462, which comes with a PCMCIA socket on the front panel. In addition, the V466 has 8 built-in 10/100 Mbps Ethernet switch ports for connecting network devices, and the V468 has 8 DI and 8 DO interfaces for connecting digital input/output devices.
