AirSprite Technologies

is rolling out plans this week at ISA Expo in Houston for a family of wireless sensor infrastructure products for industrial automation. The products will be built on two emerging standards: WirelessHART and ISA 100. See below for links to other recent wireless developments and to more from ISA Expo 2007.

The first AirSprite products will connect directly to HART devices and will not require changes. The installation of industrial wireless networks also will work with existing systems and be upgradeable to comply with future standards. The manufacturer is targeting industries including oil and gas, chemical, power, and water and wastewater treatment.

“Globally, wireless technology has had a significant impact on the way business works, but it is still fighting to make inroads into the industrial world,” said Paul Sereiko, AirSprite CEO.

“Our goal is to enable plant managers to find and fix a problem before they have a costly problem. We will provide a wireless sensor infrastructure that accomplishes this economically and with minimal disruption to day-to-day operations,” Sereiko says. AirSprite is located in Marlborough, MA.

ARC Advisory Group reports that more than 55 million instruments have been installed worldwide, 23.5 million of which are HART-based.

According to Harry Forbes, ARC senior analyst, “The recent release of a ratified HART specification that includes WirelessHART provides a new and potentially low-cost way for manufacturers to capture online diagnostic information from millions of existing field devices. Process manufacturers will be looking for products and solutions that can deliver this information to them economically and reliably.”

Two papers will be presented at ISA Expo by AirSprite’s Sereiko: The first is “

Wireless Retrofits in Process Industries for Enhanced Plant Asset Management

,” Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 2 p.m. in the WINA Wireless & Networking Exchange, and the second is “ What Process Control Professionals Think about Wireless …,” Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 3:30 p.m. in the ISA100 Wireless Theater.
