ISA100 platform handles complex data packages from specialized devices via wireless
Honeywell Process Solutions uses tunneling within the protocol to carry proprietary data. Video: Soroush Amidi explains the latest developments with ISA100 and Honeywell’s OneWireless program.
One of the challenges related to wireless field devices is dealing with instruments that generate complex data, beyond simple analog or digital information. Typically such devices communicate over wires often using proprietary protocols that are not supported by current wireless offerings. ISA100 includes a capability for tunneling that can carry the data in a way that leaves it intact to the extent that a control system cannot tell if the channel is wired or wireless.
Tunneling allows information using one communication protocol to be sent over a network that uses another protocol. Read a more detailed explanation.
In the video, Soroush Amidi, product marketing manager for Honeywell’s OneWireless networking family, explains how the approach is applied in the company’s larger strategy.
