ISA

. "

ANSI/ISA-99.00.01-2007, Security for Industrial Automation and Control Systems Part 1: Terminology, Concepts, and Models

," is the first of a series that addresses cyber security for industrial automation and control systems (IACS). The Part 1 standard, which focuses on key concepts, terminology and models, will serve as a foundation for standards now in development in the ISA99 series.

The updated technical report, ANSI/ISA-TR99.00.01-2007 , Security Technologies for Industrial Automation and Control Systems, offers an assessment of available cyber security tools, mitigation countermeasures, and technologies. Guidelines provided apply to existing and new IACSs used in regulating and monitoring a variety of industries and infrastructures.

Categories of cyber security technologies, the types of products available in the categories, and pros and cons of their use in IACS environments relative to expected threats and known cyber vulnerabilities are covered. It also provides recommendations and guidance for using the cyber security technology products and countermeasures.

Related to the work of the ISA99 committee, a new initiative has been undertaken by the organization.

ISA Security Compliance Institute

will identify and promote security standards-compliant products and systems in IACS applications. Compliant products or systems will carry the ISASecure designation, providing immediate recognition of security characteristics to asset owners, integrators, and consumers.

Is control system security a real issue for you yet? Do you have policies, procedures, and technologies in place to help?
