Level sensor: Magnetostrictive device extends mounting options
New configuration can operate with direct insertion or even mounted externally.
Orion Instruments , (a Magnetrol company) has announced its new enhanced Jupiter magnetostrictive level transmitter. This new family offers high accuracy characteristic of this technology, combined with expanded mounting options. ( Read an earlier article on magnetostrictive technology .)
The enhanced Jupiter transmitter may be mounted as a direct insertion instrument with the sensor float mounted around the probe rod. Or, in situations where this is impractical, the probe can be parallel to an external float chamber, reading the position of the float through the chamber wall. Either approach provides a continuous level measurement.
Orion reports very precise measuring capability with error of
-40 to +160 °F (-40 to +70 °C) ambient operation;
Process temperatures to 850 °F (454 °C); and
4-20 mA with HART standard, Foundation Fieldbus optional.
