Linear motion technologies move people, baggage in Spain

03/16/2007

Acton, MA —Linear synchronous motors (LSM) will power airport baggage handling and automated people movers at the Passenger Terminal Expo 2007, March 27-29, at Fira de Barcelona in Barcelona, Spain, according to MagneMotion , a developer and manufacturer of assembly automation, material handling, and transportation products that use electro-magnetic technology. The demonstration will feature MagneMotion’s MagneMover DB 1.0, a new modular track and vehicle product designed to complement its QuickStick LSM technology. The system can transport nominal and oversized airport baggage loads at speeds up to 10 m/s while precisely tracking bags via built-in position-sensing technology. Switching, position sensing, and motion control are handled electro-magnetically through user-friendly software, greatly reducing mechanical dependencies and the need for third-party systems.

A premier international event for the airport industry, the Passenger Terminal Expo will cover a variety of current and future key issues affecting the design, development, and operation of passenger terminals. The Expo will feature more than 200 exhibitors and 100 speakers from the world’s leading aviation authorities, airports, airlines, architectural companies, and consultancies. Speakers will discuss the latest trends and developments within the passenger terminal industry offering new solutions for operational issues. “The Passenger Terminal Expo brings together the top international companies in the commercial aviation industry,” said Todd Webber, co-founder and president of MagneMotion. “We are excited to be part of an event that gathers so many instrumental players and potential customers for two of our primary target markets—baggage handling and transportation. Both are key topics for airport planners, and we look forward to presenting our LSM technology as a viable and cost effective solution.”

MagneMotion’s transportation initiatives take advantage of its LSM propulsion and control, as well as its patented Maglev technology. Beneficial to baggage handling and transportation systems, the technology can be configured as bus-sized automated people movers or personal rapid transit systems. The company provides advanced electromagnetic transportation, assembly, and logistics solutions.
