Looking ahead to 2015: How will the world be more energy efficient?

As the world’s demand for energy grows with economic development, the obvious question is where will energy come from in the future, and how will it be used? Since many of ABB’s products and services are directly related to energy production, transmission, and consumption, we consider those questions daily throughout our company.

A recent issue of our ABB Review looks at the world in 2015, and offers some predictions as to how the world will produce and consume energy. Energy efficient solutions will be a major element of that picture with wider deployment of technologies that are under development today. In the online edition, we present a broad spectrum of applications of our technologies that boost energy efficiency. You’ll discover energy efficiency as the “low hanging fruit” where proven technology can be introduced immediately with very short payback periods.

Article topics include:

  • Technologies to tune up electrical distribution grids;

  • Wind power generation on land and sea;

  • Optimizing a co-located power and water desalination plant;

  • How a big paper mill used automation strategy to save energy;

  • Reducing manufacturing energy demands while maintaining productivity;

  • The promise of biofuels; and

  • How energy efficient electric motors save over their lifetime.
