LXI Consortium holds general meeting, plug fest

Cleveland, OH— A recently formed standards organization, the LXI Consortium , held its fourth general meeting and first interoperability testing session last week at Case Western Reserve University. The event featured a one-day “plug fest” that gave member companies the chance to test prototype LXI devices for compliance with preliminary specifications and interoperability between prototype devices. Open to members and non-members, the general meeting featured a show and tell and summary of plug fest results, general consortium business, and technical sessions.

Cleveland is also the home of four of the LXI Consortium’s member companies, Keithley Instruments Inc. , VXI Technology, Complete Networks, and IOtech.

The consortium reports that it manages LXI, which is a LAN-based modular architecture standard for automated test systems. The organization is a not-for-profit corporation made up of leading test and measurement companies. Its goals are to develop, support and promote the LXI standard, which.builds on other industry standards. LXI-compliant devices will feature LAN-based communications, integrated Web-based configuration, clock synchronization, high-speed hardware triggering, and IVI instrument drivers. LXI's capabilities meet the needs of the research, industrial, and military test and measurement markets.
