Recent machine vision developments include Dalsa Corp .’s sale of $1.3 million (CDN) of machine vision products for Next Instrument’s flat-panel-display inspection equipment; new FocalSpot Inc . VIPx X-Ray Image Processor; and new Toshiba Teli America Inc . CS6910CL color machine vision camera.
Dalsa Corp. received contracts from Next Instrument, a leading Korean supplier of flat-panel-display inspection equipment. Dalsa will provide the customer with latest-generation electronic cameras, designed to image at very high speeds under low light conditions. Next Instrument’s system searches for defects on flat-panel televisions, notebook PCs, and LCD (liquid crystal display) monitors as they are being manufactured. This kind of online, real-time quality control allows flat-panel manufacturers improve yield and lower costs, Dalsa suggests.

FocalSpot Inc.’s VIPx X-Ray Image Processor offers an extended feature set of advanced SMT/BGA inspection capabilities and image enhancement tools to address current industry requirements. VIPx is a Microsoft Windows XP-based Image Processor said to deliver advanced solder joint, package and PCB board level diagnostic software capabilities for enhanced visualization, precise measurement, and user-defined (pass or fail) analysis of SMT/BGA solder joints, PCBs, components, mechanical parts and electrical interconnections. VIPx can be used to upgrade most x-ray inspection systems, (manual or semi-automated) with PC-based functionality. Wizard-driven diagnostic helpers ease use; algorithm-based inspection modules automatically find solder connections and perform measurement and defect detection by operator requires. VIPx also delivers data collection and comprehensive measurement reporting to isolate, quantify, and document faults for corrective action. The system price is $12,500.
