MagneMotion debuts shuttle at ATX; wins award; gains partners

Acton, MAMagneMotion debuts its previously announced MagneMover Shuttle this week. The turnkey manufacturing and assembly automation transport system combines the company's QuickStick Linear Synchronous Motors (LSMs) with standard, aluminum track, and vehicle components to form a flexible product transport solution. The system features a high-speed transfer shuttle that allows for a range of system layout alternatives and tight return paths that save floor space. A MagneMover video is available. In related news, a $6.3 million U.S. federal grant was awarded to develop the system for urban transportation; more partners were announced.
The product debuts at Automation Technology Expo (ATX) East (Booth #3023) at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City this week. ATX highlights automated solutions for lean manufacturing, cost reduction, enhanced productivity, and six-sigma process control. According to show management, with today’s off-shore outsourcing, it is crucial for North American manufacturers to automate in order to remain competitive in the global marketplace.
ATX is co-locating with Medical Design & Manufacturing East; East Pack; Atlantic Design & Manufacturing; Plastec East; and the new Green Manufacturing Expo. Visitors may download a free exhibition pass.
In other news, MagneMotion has been awarded $6.3 million under a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and Old Dominion University to develop a magnetic levitation (maglev) system for the urban transportation sector. The project, funded under the FTA Urban Maglev Program, will create a transportation system similar to existing monorails, but with vehicles that are levitated, guided, and propelled by electro-magnetic forces. The design is affordable in urban/commuter settings and can be deployed at a lower cost than existing Chinese, Japanese, and German maglev trains.
The company also has announced new sales channel partners in Italy, China/Singapore and South Korea. Covering Italy is Servotecnica S.p.A. located in Nova Milanese. Another addition is Servo Dynamics in Singapore, which will be responsible for direct sales and service to Chinese speaking countries in the Pacific Rim. In South Korea, MagneMotion has signed on JungWoo Factory & Bio-mechanics (JungWoo F&B).
