Philadelphia, Pa. - Despite its academic format, ISA Tech/99 still featured thousands of new products and services from the biggest and most innovative players in control, automation, and software. Some of the most useful follow:
ABB (Wickliffe, O.) and Elsag Bailey 's systems is their Human System Interface (HSI), which provides one window interface to monitor, control, and manage plant-wide information. Designed to integrate Advant, Symphony, SattLine, and Freelance 2000 systems, HSI uses OLE for process control (OPC). HSI provides process data collection, storage and analysis tools, advanced alarm management, and advanced reporting capabilities.
Fisher-Rosemount (Austin, Tex.) and Hyprotech 's (Alberta, Calgary, Canada) partnership to use the 'simulate' parameter in F OUNDATION fieldbus function blocks and OLE for process control (OPC) technology, allows DeltaV's design studio and controller and Hyprotech's HYSYS's process simulation software to be used on a laptop PC. DeltaV and HYSYS's compliance with OPC helped the companies create a solution, DeltaV Simulate, which met customers' on-the-road design and testing requirements in three weeks.
Foxboro Co. (Foxboro, Mass.). I/A Series Information Suite provides a common information management solution for Foxboro's I/A Series and other plant systems, plus interfaces to ERP systems. Using adaptive control to optimize plant performance, I/A Series Control and Optimization Suite is based on Foxboro's control algorithms enhanced by capabilities from SimSci and other Invensys firms.
GE Fanuc 's (Charlottesville, Va.) expanded Operator Control Station (OCS) family includes graphical displays for improved trending and batch management. Its OCS250 can control up to 288 I/O points and can be used standalone or in distributed applications with a slave configuration over DeviceNet or peer-to-peer over CsCANnetworks.Other new OCS items include: graphical interface Operator Stations, SmartStack digital combo module, 12-channel analog input card, and SmartStack Ethernet card.
Intergraph Corp 's (Huntsville, Ala.) web-based data access and reporting software, SmartPlant Explorer 3.0, features a module that allows accessing, searching, and reporting on Intergraph's INtools, an integrated software toolset for instrumentation system design, engineering, maintenance, and life cycle data management. SmartPlant Explorer includes redesigned software architecture, live data access capability, interface improvements, and customization options.
Intrinsyc Software Inc. 's (Vancouver, B.C., Canada) 'deviceOPC' brings the abilities of Microsoft Windows DNA for Manufacturing to factory floor devices. This licensable technology allows manufacturers to create Windows CE-based solutions that are network compatible with the enterprise level. Intrinsyc says deviceOPC expands on a foundation created by its previous deviceCOM and deviceRMS products.
Rockwell Automation (Milwaukee, Wis.) is a 266 MHz, scalable, open hardware platform, which can be configured with Microsoft Windows NT-based HMI programs, such as Rockwell Software's RSView32.
VenturCom (Cambridge, Mass.), a scalable middleware with real-time data and control exchange between software components, including applications and device drivers. DCX leverages VenturCom's Win32rt, a focused selection of Win32 API calls that aid design of real-time Windows application components and real-time device drivers. It supports COM and DCOM connectivity standards, and includes an OPC server for seamless communication with OPC-based client applications. VenturCom also announced its partnership with Rexroth Indramat to develop 'SoftSERCANS,' an open, real-time interface to SERCOS-based drives employing VenturCom's RTX technology. SoftSERCANS and VenturCom's DCX messaging interface to SoftSERCANS will allow PC-based data acquisition and control products to use SERCOS through a standard real-time interface.
Xycom Automation (Saline, Mich.). OpenHMI are human-machine interface (HMI) factory-floor visualization products equipped with flash drives for use in manufacturing and process control systems. OpenCTRL Series XAC3400 industrial controllers with Microsoft Windows CE provide bundled packages that combine a PC and control software. Units can be programmed using Xycom's ASIC-300 program development environment, which supports all IEC-61131 programming languages. Xycom also debuted its 3015 flat-panel industrial monitor for plant floor operator interface applications.
