In this presentation, Dr. Amy Smith will touch on the benefits of mentoring programs, then explore more deeply the process of matching mentors and mentees. From this presentation, attendees will better understand how making the correct mentoring match can improve a firm's success.

Dr. Amy Smith has been an expert in the field of adult education, soft-skills training, and research design for more than two decades. As an adult educator, she has a diverse background in custom training program development and assessment that includes leading instructional design teams, subject matter experts, and business professionals from conceptualization, through implementation, to evaluation in a variety of technical and academic fields.

Dr. Amy Smith is an expert in live and Web-based training venues for individuals and groups. Clients include engineering and technical firms, non-profits, international government organizations, government agencies, and public school districts.

Dr. Amy Smith is a member of the Career Smart team of columnists for Consulting-Specifying Engineer magazine. She also has published feature articles for consulting engineers on the topics of mentoring and training.

Learning objectives:
1. Attendees will understand what formal and informal mentoring programs are and how mentors work with mentees in various forms.
2. The audience will learn the main issues to consider when matching a mentor and mentee.
3. Data and research will be presented about what makes a mentoring program successful, and the audience will understand how to put that into practice in their own firm.
4. The audience will be able to match employees at their engineering firm, using the techniques provided in this presentation.
