Mobile system brings calibration services to the user

By Control Engineering Staff November 17, 2005

Sypris Test & Measurement Calibration has launched a mobile system to bring calibration equipment and personnel to the user. The third-party mobile calibration provider names Eaton, AT&T, ITT Industries, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) among its clients. FAA work alone provides 38,000 calibrations at more than 400 installations in North America and offshore.

Many telecommunications companies, electronic manufacturers, and government agencies with multiple installations calibrate test equipment in-house or send it to off-site locations for work. The mobile cal system brings calibration and personnel to the site, improving asset utilization by reducing equipment downtime, eliminating shipping costs and the risk of equipment damage. The service is said to be the only national third-party calibration provider offering a fleet of state-of-the-art mobile calibration labs with deliverables in all 50 states.

An accompanying Web-based calibration asset management system called Calweb provides the ability to retrieve records globally. Sypris also operates calibration services in Europe, Asia, and Puerto Rico.
